Communications Analyst - UNDP

Education: 
    Bachelors  degree in media relations, journalism, publishing or related field.

Experience: 
    2 years relevant experience at the national or international level (preferably with the United Nations) in public relations, communications or advocacy;
    Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, good knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems. Excellent communication and writing skills.

Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions:
    Preparation and Implementation of internal and external strategies for communications, outreach and advocacy
    Implementation of the UNDP publications strategy and plan;
    Supervision of the design and maintenance of the UNDP web site, intranet, CO web-based knowledge management system and advocacy tools;
    Support to business development;
    Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing.

Provides support to the planning and design of internal and external strategies for communications, outreach and advocacy focusing on achievement of the following results:
    Promotion and dissemination of corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives and publications such as the Human Development Report with the relevant staff members;
    Conduct of communications needs assessments for CO (projects, country programme and corporate change initiatives, etc.);
    Analysis of requirements and synthesis of proposals for elaboration of the CO communications, outreach and advocacy strategy based on the corporate communications strategy;
    Development/production of communication and advocacy instruments and materials for marketing and awareness-raising campaigns, including briefing materials and press releases in coordination with the supervisor;
    Drafting inputs in project formulations to integrate advocacy and communication strategies into all aspects of UNDP’s development programme;
    Writing, editing and supervising translation of speeches and public statements.

Ensures the implementation of the UNDP publications strategy and plan focusing on the achievement of the following results: 
    Effective implementation of the CO publications strategy and plan;
    Management of some CO publication activities, such as drafting articles, content management, norms for publishing, design, maintenance of regular contact with printers and other suppliers to ensure production and publications dissemination.

Provides support to the maintenance of the UNDP web site, intranet, CO web-based knowledge management system focusing on achievement of the following results:
    Maintenance of the office web sites based on corporate requirements in cooperation with the ICT staff;
    Work closely with the Country Office team for the preparation of the content for the web sites to ensure consistency of the materials as well as other advocacy tools and vehicles;
    Identification of success stories and best practices to be showcased on the website.

Supports the business development focusing on achievement of the following results:
    Launches and campaigns;
    Promotion and dissemination of corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives and publications such as the Human Development Report;
    Promotion and maintenance of public information campaigns on UNDP activities, results of MDGs, UN Reform.

Outreach:
    Preparation and dissemination of newsletter and other advocacy materials to donors, partners, counterparts and projects;
    Analysis and follow-up of UNDP information and updates in different social media.

Consultant To Draft A Position Paper - UNDP
CONSULTANT: TO DRAFT A POSITION PAPER ON RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY IN KUWAIT

Education:
    Advanced university degree in the field of social sciences, IT, Management Information System and/or participatory planning for sustainable development.

Experience:
    At least 10 years' relevant work experience, including experience in developing and/or implementing relevant programmes or projects;
    Experience in drafting strategic papers and research-based documents;
    Experience in designing and implementing capacity-building programmes;
    Knowledge of UNDP global programme policies and procedures and broader UN mandates;
    Experience working in GCC countries is an asset.

The report will be completed within 40 days, starting no later than October 7th, 2013; in accordance with the below activities and timeframes:

    October 7: Reporting start date;
    November 5: Submitting of draft report;
    November 15: The final position paper will be submitted to UNDP Kuwait no later than this date. 

The consultant will conduct a desk review of all relevant documents, meet with relevant national stakeholders and counterparts, and seek technical inputs from UNDP.

The consultant will develop a comprehensive, innovative and strategic position paper on the topic (in accordance with a format to be provided by UNDP Kuwait), drawing on relevant international and regional best practice and emphasizing Kuwait's research and technology areas.

Throughout this process, the consultant will work in close collaboration with the assigned focal person in UNDP office, who will guide the drafting of the position paper (including substantive inputs and review of various drafts and their clearance from RR).

The consultant will also be required to meet and brief CPD writer to provide input on the document.

All reports must be produced in the English Language.
    A position paper drafted on the basis of broad consultations, analysis and review on the topic "Research and Technology", to be shared with UNDP focal point;
    A finalized position paper on the topic covering all the areas provided in the deliverables section, for inclusion in the CPD.
